Emo - Critisism? =(?

Okay, I am twelve years old, I dress emo and have emo hair.

But why do people criticise the emo genre? I'm not doing any harm, everywhere I go, I hear "emo fag" or, "Emo kid, cutting and dying" etc.

I don't self harm or want to die etc. etc.

But how can I stop them saying that stuff?

You can't. You have no control over what other people say about you. But you know you're not like that. There are always going to be people who say "all emos are suicidal" or "all people who like hiphop are drug dealing pimps" or "everyone who likes any classical/jazz music is a geek". Why should you have to care what anyone thinks about what you do? Be who you are and be proud of it.

I don't know- I am the same way. I think it is because people equate us with the goths, and also because the crazy emos are more publicized. I wish I knew how to stop them... but such is life

No, your not being emo, thats being a scene kid.

Emo means Emotive Hardcore, not emotional. (A music that originated in Washington DC in the late 80's early 90's with bands like Circle Takes The Square, Sunny Day Real Estate, etc) I don't have a problem with the scene kids who claim their emo, but I do have a problem that they label themselves and they don't know what they are talking about. Emo is music not a state of being or a fashion style. Everyone has just blindly assumed what it is without really researching the damn term their using.

im kind of emo well first of all you shouldnt listen to them. They are trash, liking yourself is more important than what people think of you.

That is a problem many emos face.

The reality is, that you have the courage to dress that way, they don楹搕.

I would recommend you to consider what type of emo are you;

are you a poser or a true-emo? A poser is a person that only dress like emo, but doesen楹搕 see the world as an emo does (emotionally, in a sensible way, sometimes negatively).

In case you are a poser, you may say them that. Cutting and dying? Do they really think you would do that?

You should try to find other emo kids in the area (it might be improbable there are any other), and make friends with them. You just have no reason to be in toucht with untolerant and ignorant people as the ones you told be of.

you are quite young to be emo but still if its what you feel inside you have the right to let it out, people criticize you as much and as often as they can, I have been going around and lately i got a group of kids calling after me as punk sl.ut ...

Emo is quite a "new" gendre, it has -boomed- really a lot lately... People are afraid of "different", the idea that emo means cutting and self harm and suicide has become rally popular...keep thinking your own way and go on with a smile

no offence,but 2 me,ur more of a scene kid....true emos listen to emo/screamo.......f ur just in 4 d fad,u better stay out of it.....dis trend s so not cool.....maybe d long bangs r cool......but d clothes.....i mean small girly pants??im emo but i still wear casual clothes....just few accesories.....and my mp3 player....and long hair...and fit body...dats wat a true emo wud luk lyk......i'd rather lyk 2 listen 2 emo/screamo...dan being a part of dis decieving fad.....
